The record tells you what passed. These pages are for the other half of the question: where to stand, what you are looking at, and what the words mean.
The record answers what passed and when. It does not tell you where to park, which pier the boats come closest to, or why nothing at all crossed the Soo last February. These pages do that, and each one is written against the archive rather than around it: the seasons, the busy days and the quiet ones are the numbers from the passage record, not folklore.
Three of them are place guides, Duluth and the Soo and Port Huron, and each links to the chokepoint pages that hold the real log for that water. The other two are background: what the November gales actually do to traffic, and a glossary of the vocabulary the rest of the site uses without stopping to explain it.
